The New York Racing Association commissioned Sky Media to develop a series of educational exhibits for an event at Saratoga Race Course—transforming historical information into an accessible, immersive public experience.
The challenge was to communicate more than the history of horse racing. The exhibits needed to reveal the broader ecosystem surrounding the sport, highlighting the people, professions, and infrastructure that sustain one of New York's longest-standing industries while remaining engaging to visitors of all backgrounds.
We developed an environmental graphics system that balanced historical storytelling with contemporary exhibit design. Information was organized through a clear editorial hierarchy, allowing visitors to move naturally between moments in racing history and the industry's present-day impact. Content, imagery, typography, and spatial composition were carefully structured to create an experience that could be explored sequentially or entered at any point without losing context.
Rather than treating the displays as static informational panels, each exhibit was conceived as part of a larger narrative environment. Graphic elements, pacing, and visual rhythm worked together to encourage discovery while maintaining clarity across multiple subjects and viewpoints.
Designed for a high-traffic public setting, the system needed to perform at multiple distances—from attracting attention across the venue to supporting close reading and extended engagement. Every element was considered within the physical environment, ensuring the exhibits remained both visually cohesive and highly legible.
The resulting installation transformed educational content into a compelling public narrative—connecting visitors with the history of New York racing while introducing the diverse careers and opportunities that continue to shape the industry today.
